The World According To Ms. Cutrone

I finally got a chance to read Kelly Cutrone’s If You Have To Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You. I’ve been following Kelly’s career for some time now (PRE Hills, City, and Kell On Earth) and it was only a matter of time before her antics would propel her into icon status. Sure you can say much of her work has been sensationalized, or that her shows are “too commercial”…but any woman ready to embark on her own personal journey, whatever that may be, should read this book. I assisted a lady much like Ms. Cutrone, and although I’ve become relatively successful on my own path, there are days when I actually miss fetching coffee for someone. READ THIS BOOK.

I will def check it out, but I just gotta say I dont dig on books or things that promote women being “bitches” or just plain rude people to get ahead in life. Is that her angle? I mean, dont get me wrong, women have to be strong to get ahead, but they don’t have to be shitty people… Just striking up a topic… ;-)

@Cha No at all the case. You need to read the book it is sooo good. She explains your concern about promoting “bitches” really well. I hope you get to read it! Its a MUST!

Cha I can definitely see your point. I worked for a lady with a similar no nonsense approach and even though it was a bit much sometimes, it just taught me to keep cool under pressure. Kelly may very well be a shitty person, I don’t know her. But her tactics are very REAL. There’s a part in the book where she tells Donald Trump to basically fuck off because she didn’t agree with what he was trying to achieve with her company. That took balls to tune in to her integrity that much, despite what he could’ve offered her company. She’s a little extreme yes, but definitely for good reason, in my opinion. People need to be checked sometimes, bottom line. I spent a lot of time worrying about whose feelings I would hurt, am I being mean.. etc. I’m not concerned with it anymore because I know I’m a good person. If I’m being curt with someone it’s always because of time or I just don’t like them. Which is empowering to me because when La and I first started FF it was so important for people to “like” us. That’s not the case anymore, I could care less. As far as the word “bitch” goes, the only time I’m offended by it is when a man uses it carelessly. For example: “I saw that bitch the other day at the mall”. THAT is uncalled for. But if I’m being cutthroat and in charge and demanding and a WOMAN says, ” Wow she’s a real bitch isn’t she? I don’t mind. I own it.

And I’d also like to add that tuning into your intuition and integrity (which is the foundation of this book) is what FF solely represents in my opinion. We’ve been offered lots of opportunities from various companies, but passed because intuitively we knew they weren’t legit. The three of us are magical when it comes to smelling a rat for sure!

Lol… Yeah, Im def interested in reading it. And I know that owning the word “bitch” has gotta be done sometimes… But its like you said, we all need to check ourselves sometimes. I truly believe there is a difference between being a nice person and being a pushover. And I DEFINITELY agree with the dislike of using the word bitch to address all women… (yuck)

you know, I guess you just have to be cutthroat and hardcore in industries like fashion, and music or media… Its just a matter of separating your professional life from your real life. Wasnt trying to offend :-)
