PERSPECTIVE

Let’s face it; times are hard for a lot of people right now. It sure is easy to be Miss Positive Chipperchick when all is fine and dandy, but when the sh*t comes down, who do you become?

I’ve lost the battle with stress and negativity a million times. I’ve turned into a raging bee-yotch, a Negative Nancy and a total pain-in-the-ass when times got tough. And you know what? It didn’t make me feel any better. In fact, it made me feel worse (not to mention it also irritated the piss out of everyone around me).

Enter stage left: PERSPECTIVE

Sure, everything is relative, and I cannot compare the struggles of my life to the struggles of anyone else’s because every situation is different. What I can do is be mindful of how much more fortunate I am than so many others, even at what I might consider my worst. Even if I lose my house and have to move into a studio apartment, I’m still doing better than the homeless man at the shelter. And even still, the homeless man at the shelter is doing better than the homeless man sleeping in the alley. And beyond that, the homeless man sleeping in the alley is doing okay compared to a starving three-year-old baby in a war-torn village in Africa.

The bottom line is that we all have many things to be thankful for that we take for granted, and if you’re even able to log onto this web site and read these words, you’re doing a hell of a lot better than 70% of the planet right now. It’s all about PERSPECTIVE.

So, is your glass half empty or half full? Only you can answer that!

You know I come here almost every day and almost leave a comment every day I’m here. But I am somewhat intimidated by the good friends on here and end up not doing so. Right now though, I had to. Because I want to applaud you! I couldn’t agree with you more Karlie. The way you write so eloquently mama left me speechless, all I could do was nod in agreement. Love it! I am excited and also look forward to reading more of your stuff here.

And I myself, have always been a glass half full kind of girl =]

Hi Karlie, I followed you over here per your myspace link in true stalker fashion…ha…

    Anyway,
This reminds me, my boyfriend teaches behaviorally challenged kids and he was telling me how he was telling them the story about a man who was depressed about having no shoes…until he met a man with no feet.
…I am trying to keep my perspective too, as I just got laid off and the job market is not exactly thriving right now.

    I <3 ur blogs :)

Sherry, with passion for your work like yours, you’ll be back at it in NO time. I know this, man! *sending you good vibes*

Kristen, thanks for checkin for the piece! I’m getting to the point where just being able to afford the Starbucks drive-thru makes me happy when I see how some of my peoples are struggling financially.

    Perspective rules!
