Much like any custody battle I’m sure, the tug-of-war with the family pet is a painful one. After years of being spoiled with joint custody, my precious poo-poos will permanently live with their dad in Los Angeles. Which again leaves me wondering: After a break-up…who REALLY should take ownership of Fido? My current bf gave HIS ex the dog when they split, which says a ton about his character, by the way. It’s almost like an engagement ring. When things head south, do you ask for the ring back??? Although a part of me is happy to see my little ones go (it’s too fucking hot in Phoenix; things DIE out here) I can’t help but feel sad, angry, and most of all hurt by my ex’s decision to take them. I’m human. I’ve heard of stories where people hire lawyers, battle it out in court, PHYSICALLY battle each other (lol) the list goes on and on. Maybe I’m paying some kind of karmic debt, who knows, but what’s the RIGHT thing to do? Any answers??

This is a tough one. I think in this situation you just decide together what is best for the dogs. Where would they get the best quality of life. I think you know Dan will take good care of them. I’m so sorry Clav

AH man! This is probably a story that should be told over drinks so I’ll tell you the full story at a later date. I went through this with Chris and it was devastating. To me a dog is like a child. I couldn’t live without my pups so I threatened Chris’s life. I won. The End. Haha!

with the new living situation, he’ll supposedly travel less, but we’ll see. I stil think they should be with me though

I think my dog would throw a hissy fit. Daddy is for playing with. but he knows who feeds him, buys his treats, cleans his face and lets him sit on her lap during True Blood and Entourage. .
And then there would be some late night dog-napping activities in the works. I don’t play with it comes to my puppy.
Mazie yup you’re exactly right. I think animals just KNOW what’s up. To be fair, King is closer to his dad but my little one is ALL mine, plus she is super close with my boyfriend, so it’s gonna be rough seeing her go :/
damn, this makes me not want any pets with the boy. you can’t set up something where you trade off 3 months at a time or something?
I have the opportunity to visit them twice a month but we have a lot to hash out still :/ thanks everyone for the support! it might seem petty, but these are my kiddos!
i don’t think it is petty, i think it is sweet that you love them so much to visit them out of state.
take it from me, a custody battle over a child SUCKS. so if you love your doggies like babies, i feel for you love. best of luck!
