The girls of Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides” epitomized 1970’s suburbia. Blonde and freshly scrubbed, the somber beauties floated around in their “nighties”, making their ill fate look dreamy and somewhat romantic.

I celebrated this Mother’s Day as a puppy mom. My pup’s name is Ume (It’s a japanese salted plum eaten with rice) I named him that because that was the color of his nose at 6 weeks. Also the plums are tiny and so is he. He’s flipped my house upside down, made me broke, kept me up, and peed or pooped in every spot in my house. and I STILL couldn’t imagine life without him. No one embodied 1970’s opulence better than these two shady characters. Young, rich, CRAZY, and in love. It was perfect.

One Day Without Shoes is the day we spread awareness about the impact a simple pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. On April 8th, we ask people to go the day, part of the day or even just a few minutes, barefoot, to experience a life without shoes first-hand, and inspire others at the same time.
