The girls of Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides” epitomized 1970’s suburbia. Blonde and freshly scrubbed, the somber beauties floated around in their “nighties”, making their ill fate look dreamy and somewhat romantic.

Chanel Cruise 2011 wont launch until the end of the year, but it previews a super-pale powder blue polish that may be on your next must-have list.

I LOVE classic, statement sunglasses; It’s an addiction I could never shake. Forget the bags and shoes, I NEED shades. No clue why, but I’ve always liked the idea of throwing on a $500 pair of sunglasses with a ten dollar outfit. Pretentious hipster irony maybe, but who cares, I’m allowed ONE fault, right? In an effort to revamp the brand, Ray-Ban is creating six new looks for its Aviator series. According to WWD: The collections will retail from $139 for the classic Aviator to $495 for the Ultra Gold collection, and will be available in the U.S. in June. Would LOVE to see the Ultra Gold collection, I can only imagine

Now showing until August 15th, The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art brings you American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity. According to the NY Times: The exhibition is laid out as a series of panoramas, each exploring how evolutions in women’s dress reflected revolutions in their social and economic status. The Heiress, the Gibson Girl, the Bohemian, the Patriot and the Suffragist, the Flapper and the Screen Siren are all represented here in beautiful, interesting clothes. What woman represents YOUR vision of American style?

I finally got a chance to read Kelly Cutrone’s If You Have To Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You. I’ve been following Kelly’s career for some time now (PRE Hills, City, and Kell On Earth) and it was only a matter of time before her antics would propel her into icon status. Sure you can say much of her work has been sensationalized, or that her shows are “too commercial”…but any woman ready to embark on her own personal journey, whatever that may be, should read this book. I assisted a lady much like Ms. Cutrone, and although I’ve become relatively successful on my own path, there are days when I actually miss fetching coffee for someone. READ THIS BOOK.

From a forthcoming project involving Chanel and sister brand, Eres shot by Karl Lagerfeld. Can’t wait to see the entire series.

H & M has channeled all things “festive” for their annual FAA collection. In remembrance of music festivals like Woodstock, Coachella, and the newly resurrected Lilith Fair, it was only a matter of time before a clothing brand would create pieces inspired by the events. A little bohemian, a LOT rock (think 1973 Led Zeppelin groupie- if you can), the lineup consists of 20 pieces for women, 12 for men, and around 20 accessories ranging from headphones to sleeping bags to a tent. The ad campaign features Lizzie Jagger (daughter of Mick Jagger, how appropriate) and Lou Doillon and was shot by Dan MÃ¥rtensen. According to WWD: The items will go on sale on May 20 in the Divided Youth department of around 200 selected H&M stores in all markets, with the exception of the Middle East and Israel. A quarter of sales will be donated to youth HIV/AIDS awareness projects, H&M said. Said Ann-Sofie Johansson (H & M’s Head of Design), “For me, festivals are unique and inspirational places as they join both music and fashion, To see your favorite bands, to see creative people gathered, all from different nations and with different looks, really inspires me.â€

I NEED THIS.

I got the chance to preview the Zac Posen for Target Collection today. Some stores put stuff out early and if you call around you can get lucky. I was looking forward to the dress on the left but it runs kinda small and it really just ended up looking like a pirate costume on.

This dress is one of my top picks, mostly because I like tank dresses and I think it’s universally flattering.

This cardigan was my favorite piece. I like the details and it’s very classic.

This skirt was very Kim K, and what I mean by that is it’s very “Hey look at my ass”

The red moto jacket is not worth the $200 price tag to me. The suede kinda threw me off.
Zac Posen for Target is scheduled to drop online and in select stores on April 25th, 2010.
What do you guys think of this collection so far?

Renowned interior designer Jonathan Adler has teamed up with denim giant, 7 For All Mankind for a limited run of pants and tops. According to WWD, “The limited edition collection is broken down into three themes — Deluxe, Rustic, and Pop — with a men’s and women’s look for each, giving the line a total of six jeans and six tops. The Deluxe items were designed for a casual beach lifestyle, while the Rustic segment relies on more modern, earthy looks. Pop looks use brighter colors and white contrast for a preppier look. The collection will retail for $90 to $210.” This is the first time Adler has involved his work in fashion design and also, the first time Seven has collaborated with someone OUTSIDE of fashion. The project, set to launch some time next month, is yet ANOTHER example of the collaboration craze of 2010.
