MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick – March 3rd, 2011

“Gloss is good, but there’s nothing quite as wonderfully, worldly cinematic as a Lipstick – and they’re coming back! We’ve updated formulas to make it all plausible. Sheen Supreme is the combination of the strong, sensually saturated colour of, say, Tilda Swinton’s I Am Love Milanese Lipstick, leavened with the light feel and clear vibrancy, the see-through sheen of a modern New York City Girl Gloss. Imagine no muddy undertones, gliding in pearl or creme finish, moisturizing with no sticky/tacky feel. It’s a new medium, with MAC in the lead. This is retro/modern – and
devastatingly chic.”

MAC’s new Sheen Supreme lipsticks will be a permanent product and will be available for $14.50 each. Read on for color names and descriptions

Top Picks From L.A.M.B. Fall 2011

L.A.M.B. closed NYFW with an amazing assemblage of six themes: Soldier Girls (glammed out military), Ragga Muffin Girls (rastafari meets Santa Fe-my FAVE), London Girls (tartans and boyish shapes), Buffalo Girls (street versions of the Wild West), Mod Girls (black and white 60’s inspired graphics), and Glamour Girls (all black everything with splashes of gold from Noir).

A Buffalo Gal shows off upswept turquoise eye liner and short black nails. View the entire beauty breakdown HERE.

The designer (sporting my latest hair obsession) and a very handsome escort :)

What were your favorite NYFW moments?

Fiendin For: February

Spring is right around the corner but I’m still lusting after a few fall finds. On my radar: Betsey Johnson’s “I Fucking Love You” chocolate box hats, MAC x Wonder Woman, and of course, more  Jonathan Adler. Supreme hit a home run with their quirky little spring accessories. Add a pair of Miu Miu clogs, some breath freshener, and a creepy clown cuff and voila! February faves!

Shew Review: Eyecurl Heated Eyelash Curler

Eyecurl II Heated Eyelash Curler $7

I’ll admit, I don’t use eyelash curlers. I own a Shu Uemura eyelash curler but I never use it. I’m not a fan of the crimps they can leave in lashes. Sometimes the shape ends up looking odd if you don’t do it just right. I’ve heard raves about the heated eyelash curlers in Asia, so I decided to try an inexpensive heated eyelash curler from Korean brand Eyecurl.

This type of heated eyelash curler wont leave a crimp in your lashes because it doesn’t use a clamp. You press the heated wand against the lashes. (as close as you can get to the base without burning your eye) Hold it for a few seconds, then press the tips down with the heated wand for a few seconds to curl the tips.

The Eyecurl II Heated Eyelash Curler takes one AA battery and it heats up quickly (in seconds). There is a color indicator at the tip of the wand that turns from red to white when fully heated. I followed the steps and was pretty happy with the results.

China Glaze CRACKLE Glaze

Lightning Bolt

Lightning Bolt is a white crackle. Because it’s white, it is not as opaque as the others. It crackles really well. I wasn’t sure what color combination would be best so I used different colors on each nail.

*Shown over a black creme and China Glaze Sky High-Top, Sugar High, and Happy Go Lucky

Black Mesh

Black Mesh is your standard black crackle. If you missed out on OPI Black Shatter, GET THIS! I actually like the formula of Black Mesh better than Black Shatter. It was easier to apply, went on smooth and crackled well.

*Shown over China Glaze Sky High-Top, Snow, Sugar High, and Happy Go Lucky

Broken Hearted

Broken Hearted is a bright pink crackle polish. I really like how the color combinations came out with this one. It applied easily and smoothly and crackled very well. This isn’t the best photo because the sun decided to hide at the moment this was taken.

*Shown over a black creme and China Glaze Sky High-Top, Re-fresh Mint, and Happy Go Lucky

Cracked Concrete

Cracked Concrete is a medium gray crackle polish. I had a hard time deciding what colors to use under this too. If you guys have any suggestions, I would love to try out more color combos and post more pics. Especially since the sun was in and out during my photo time :(

*Shown over a black creme and China Glaze Snow, Sugar High, and Happy Go Lucky

Fault Line

Fault Line is a purple crackle with shimmer. For some reason, this one didn’t crackle as much as the others. Maybe I layed the polish on too thick at first. I used a thinner coat on my pinky nail and it did crackle a bit better.

*Shown over a black creme and China Glaze Snow, Sugar High, and Happy Go Lucky

Crushed Candy

Crushed Candy is awesome! So sad the sun wasn’t out for this photo. It’s basically China Glaze For Audrey in crackle form! Great over black or hot pink. I’ll try to take more photos tomorrow when the sun is back out.

*Shown over a black creme and China Glaze Snow, Sugar High, and Grape Pop

Call your local Sally’s and ULTA and demand these polishes if they don’t have them yet!

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

A few of my favorite looks from the Betsey Johnson RTW Fall 2011 collection titled “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not”. The lineup showcased “references to punk, Edwardian, goth, hippie, rock ‘n’ roll, and everything in between.” I love how BJ is never afraid to be dramatic and pile on tons of makeup on the models (or herself). She’s what I LOVE about being a girl.

Redken stylist, Peter Gray created two looks, one of which involved black wigs that were spray painted with a gold shade (then sprayed again with black, using lace fabric as a stencil).

Maybelline New York’s global makeup artist, Charlotte Willer covered models’ eyes in blue eye shadow and thick black liner extended to the temples. Cheeks were kept pale, while lips were stained a deep crimson hue.

Coming Soon: China Glaze CRACKLE

Saw this release in my inbox yesterday. Can’t wait to try these out!

Roughed up grunge meets gorgeous glam! China Glaze brings a whole new level to the game with “Crackle” polish! Create endless edgy looks and make a statement with fun, fearless, color. Everyone has asked for it, and now China Glaze is giving it to them! The six different Crackle colors include:

  • Lightning Bolt – White Crackle
  • Black Mesh – Black Crackle
  • Broken Hearted – Pink Crackle
  • Cracked Concrete – Grey Crackle
  • Fault Line – Purple Crackle
  • Crushed Candy – Teal Crackle

An innovative technology allows you to play with a wide array of color combinations and achieve an edgy, new wave look. This unique formula was developed to give your nails a “crackled” design over traditional nail color. Contrasting colors are used one over another to achieve a deconstructed shatter look that takes place right before your eyes. Instant art for your nails!

How do you do it? It’s easy! Apply your favorite China Glaze glitter, shimmer or crème. Depending on the color you are using, apply either one or two coats for full coverage. When the colored enamel is dry, brush on a thin layer of the Crackle color. Allow the Crackle to work its magic during dry time. After approximately 5 minutes when the crackled design has completely formed, apply a top coat to seal the design for prolonged wear.

China Glaze Crackle will be available starting February 2011 at Sally’s Beauty Supply in 12 piece displays and 3 pack color kits which will include a base color, a crackle glaze (Black Mesh, Broken Hearted or Crushed Candy) and a China Glaze Top Coat.

China Glaze is free of DBP, toluene, and added formaldehyde.

Shew Review: Boyfriend EDP

Boyfriend EDP $35-$65

The new fragrance, created by actress Kate Walsh, was inspired by the longing felt for her boyfriend’s warm scent. She inhales his shirt, taking in the scent of the man she loves. It lingers on her clothes, her sheets, her hair—all over. Imprinted on her body and in her mind, it radiates within her, filling her with feelings of warmth and desire.

Actress Kate Walsh wanted to capture the scent of a guy on a girl: a man’s cologne mixed with perfume, the smell that lingers on the skin. This fragrance evokes memories of that time after he has left for the day—when she gently awakes in a bed that’s still warmly redolent of “boyfriend.”

An alluring balance of vanilla, jasmine blossoms, and an accord of amber is set against the sensual scents of a man, including a light musk and a shimmer of fresh woods.

I tested this out today and while I love the bottle and the idea of this fragrance, I have to be honest, I wouldn’t wear it. I smell a lot of amber, woods, and musk and it’s just not for me. I asked the “boyfriend” just to be sure and he said it smelled like an old lady :/

If you like more mature or masculine scents definitely give Boyfriend a try.

As for me, the only girl I want to smell this on is Shane from the L Word. Know what I’m sayin’?

Boyfriend is available now in Sephora stores and on Sephora.com
