Would You: Banksy Temporary Tattoos

Unidentified British street artist, Banksy, has emerged into the world of body art (unauthorized, of course). I would definitely buy them for novelty’s sake, but I wouldn’t wear them. Temporary tattoos (with the exception of some of the Chanel ones), have as much edge to them as pajama jeans. Find them HERE.

Kaws X The Standard Hotel Light Bulbs

Says the artist on the collaboration: “I love The Standard and the different projects they have been doing. When invited to create something I wanted to redesign something basic that could be found in every hotel room in the world so we decided to make a light bulb. I like the low colored glow it gives, similar to a candle.” Limited to only 1,000, get yours HERE

Wal-Mart Introduces GeoGirl

February 21st, Wal-Mart will introduce GeoGirl, a range of affordable, eco-friendly cosmetics and skincare for tweens ranging from 8 to 12 years old. The 69 item collection will include everything from a mascara, Lipshine, and spf infused lip balms, to a cream blush, cleanser, and body mist. PERFECT for young girls just starting to experiment with beauty products (the colors are age appropriate, as well as formulated to suit delicate skin). GeoGirl is also great for parents coming to terms with having daughters “in bloom”- who can recall their dad screaming “Take that crap off your face!”. Scary right? In addition to the actual makeup, GeoGirl will be accompanied by a website and carefully planned marketing strategies. According to WWD: The Web site will feature how-to videos (for example, how to apply blush to the apple of the cheeks) and information on how to make the world a better planet… There’s a philanthropic component as well, gg-Gives, which will donate a portion of net profits to a charity chosen by GeoGirl’s young customers. Girls cannot purchase products directly from geogirl.com, but they can place their favorite items in a virtual makeup drawer that can be e-mailed to parents. And the site will link to walmart.com. What do YOU think is the proper age for makeup?

Mi Casa, Su Casa

If you’ve noticed a sudden influx of eerily immaculate portrait tattoos in the Phoenix Metro area, there’s a good chance they’re the work of Andrick Aviles. Soft spoken with a worldly charm, Andrick is only 19 years old, with only three years of experience under his belt.Yes, THREE, but don’t let that number fool you. With a client roster that includes Amare Stoudemire and Arizona Cardinals star safety, Adrian Wilson, Andrick’s love for his craft and steadfast determination has led him to ultmately become Phoenix’s youngest and most sought after ink slinger. With influences ranging from Jun Cha and Jose Lopez, to The Doors and Etta James, Andrick found themes of past eras consistently catching his attention; he is an old soul and true artist.

Hailing from Mexico City, Andrick and his family moved to Arizona when he was two years old. After 14 years of enduring the battle of gaining permanent residency in the states, the Aviles family finally had their chance at opportunity. But like most people today, they struggled to raise the necessary funds, leaving the family in crisis. Enter Scottsdale Arizona’s most reputable menswear boutique, Highpoint Shoes. Besides offering an exceptional selection of shoes and clothing, Highpoint is well known for its “Family First” mantra and widespread philanthropic efforts. After working on several of its staff, Andrick became Highpoint’s official tattoo artist and “adopted baby brother”. The hometown heroes, (in conjunction with booming brand, Dearly Departed and The Adrian Wilson Foundation), decided to band together to do the right thing and support their friend.

On Friday, January 28th, Highpoint Shoes will host “Mi Casa Es Su Casa” to benefit the Aviles family and their ultimate goal of becoming LEGAL U.S. citizens. From 9 to 11 pm, there will be clothing raffles, an open bar, and an auction featuring artwork from local legends, Dumperfoo, Joshua Rhodes, Isse Maloi, and many more. ALL proceeds will be donated to the family to turn their dreams into reality. To learn more about Andrick, visit www.andrickaviles.tumblr.com.

“For it is in giving that we receive.”
– St. Francis of Assisi

From Holland, With Love

If you like

then you’ll LOVE

Best on toasted, honey wheat bread with a touch of butter, De Ruijter dark chocolate “hail” delivers the same amount of rich flavor with 20 less calories than Nutella per serving. Try dipping strawberries into them, or sprinkling on top of yogurt or ice cream. Yum yum! I got a box from a hollandse bakker (Dutch bakery) in Artesia, CA, but you can get yours HERE.

Pro Pick Of The Week: Aveda Energizing Composition

Before becoming an esthetician, I was a shampoo assistant for an Aveda Concept Salon. Anyone can tell you that the best part of a haircut is the shampoo/scalp massage, it relieves tension, energizes the scalp, and earns YOU a little extra tip money. Keep in mind that a healthy, revitalized scalp contributes to strong, shiny hair, and also stimulates growth. Left untouched, it can collect product and sebum build up, which will leave your locks dull and limp. Aveda Energizing Composition is my favorite medium to use for scalp massage. Composed of clarified Jojoba oil and essences of lavender, sage, and jasmine, the blend wakes up the senses and balances oil production. Scalp massage should last about 5 minutes PRIOR to the shampoo and should be given with slow, circular motions of both hands (the right hand should be moving clockwise, the left, counterclockwise). Apply an extra amount of pressure to the forehead, temples, and occipital bone. Cradle the head in your hands and “walk” the fingers up from the back of the neck extending to each ear. *Most Aveda salons offer training on proper massage techniques, but over time you’ll develop your own style.

Absinthe Lips

Although it won’t make you hallucinate, Absinthe Lips from For Strange Women offers a handmade balm flavored like Absinthe when it’s prepared with sugar. I’ve never partied with Absinthe before, but its flavor is often compared to Sambuca and/or black licorice-which I LOVE. Along with Absinthe Lips, For Strange Women offers a gorgeous array of 100% natural “eccentricities” and curious beauty goods.

Pee For Points

Sega has raised the bathroom bar with this curious little pissing game for urinals in Japan. Crazy.
